June 2013 HONOLULU magazine editorial design... In 2013 Ries was asked to take on the Design Director position within PacificBasin Communications for it's HONOLULU brand. His role was to lead and supervise the design of HONOLULU Magazine, HONOLULU Family Magazine, HONOLULU Shops Magazine, Whalers Magazine as well as all the companion digital editions and websites, custom publishing projects and branding collateral. not only was Ries to revamp the look and feel of the HONOLULU brand but was also called upon to recruit, train and manage a team of staff art directors as well as freelance designers, illustrators and photographers, manage the department budget, as well as art direct various projects, from event invitations to web graphics to whole publications. Although short lived, Ries' time was vastly important in attaining creditability within the Hawaii creative landscape as being someone invested in the progressive movement forward for design from paradise.
